History:
ASPSH was formed in 1993 to provide education and training opportunities for sexual health professionals and other individuals interested in Sexual Health. The first Biennial Western Canadian Conference on Sexual Health was held in 1994. The biennial conferences and other past education/training events have addressed sexual health programming, prevention, health promotion and support strategies. Feedback from conference and workshop participants revealed a keen desire for ongoing and consistent education and training opportunities.
ASPSH education program goals:
- increase the number of trained sexual health professionals in Alberta
- expand sexual health training programs to rural and diverse communities within the province of Alberta
- utilize innovative sexual health education and training strategies including the use of on–line and interactive resources
- create an accredited, standardized sexual health education program for professional development
